Scott MORRISON Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Scott, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the age of 56. Beloved husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Kristin (née Comerford); their three children, Katie, Emily and Evan and his sisters, Lynn McDougall and Michelle Barnabe. Scott completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto and his Anesthesia residency at the University of Ottawa. He initially worked in Toronto, beginning his career at St. Joseph's Hospital. In 2004, Scott and his growing family moved to Belleville, accepting a job with Quinte Healthcare. All the while, he continued to work as a locum Anesthetist in Sault Ste. Marie and 2021 marked 20 years of service in the Soo. In 2014, driven by his love of Northern Ontario and after 14 years as a locum, Scott and his family moved to Sault Ste. Marie permanently, when he joined the active staff of the Sault Area Hospital as a full time Anesthetist. Scott was a gifted Anesthesiologist. He was knowledgeable, technically skilled and a compassionate and caring doctor. He encouraged the development of protocols that improved patient safety and was constantly looking for ways to improve patient care. His use of multilingual medical terminology, epic stories from his vast OR experiences and wicked sense of humour made him a pleasure to work with. As a clinical lecturer at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Scott was a mentor to many medical students and Anesthesia residents. Scott loved being at the lake and hiking with his dog, Theo. A dedicated swimmer, paddle boarder, kayaker and biker, Scott was happiest when spending time with his family and friends, as well as supporting the development of young athletes. He was a dedicated swim coach and opened his home as a billet over the years to several Soo Greyhound and Thunderbird players. Most importantly, Scott was a loyal friend and partner. Scott's legacy is one of love, laughter and a zest for life that will continue to inspire all those that were privileged to know him. His spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched. His family sends love to all, and deep appreciation for the kindness we have been shown over these difficult days. Words cannot express our profound gratitude. Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd., Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6B 0B6, 705-945-7758), on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place in the Chapel at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Helen Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, please go for a bike ride, or a paddle, and hug your people tight. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the ALS Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family. www.northwoodfuneral.com Scotty, we will love you forever.

I was so upset to hear this news of Scott´s passing. First of all my condolences to Kristin, the children and his family for your loss.
I meet Scott waaay back in the 1980s along with Rich Wells, Scott and I shared lifeguard stories, our love of swimming, similar names and at the time partners named Kristin which we would often chuckle as our parents friends could never keep things straight.
Scott was brilliant, kind and funny. He was always there and always there to listen.
Although we had not connected now in many years, his loss is a huge impact to everyone and I know he will be dearly missed. My heart is broken for the family and community. Godspeed!

I had the pleasure of working with Scott for about 6 years at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto and was so saddened and shocked to hear about his passing. Scott was an excellent physician and a wonderful friend. I have fond memories of going to Buffalo Bill's games, Raptors and Leaf games with him and amazing memories of his wit and dry sense of humor. I recall how powerful he was treading water and playing water polo when we stayed at a cottage on Bass Lake in Muskoka and the amazing time we had at that cottage. Our two familes enjoyed wonderful times together and our kids grew up together when Scott and Kristin lived in Toronto and we have such beautiful memories of our times together. Sending love to Kristin, Katie, Emily and Evan.

Such a terrible and tragic loss... How can this even be possible? My heart aches from this news... My deepest condolences to you all...

Bitter-sweet reminiscing: of Sunnyside Pool, taking on the Harbies, volleyball in Greenwood Park, the DKE house, patty wagons, in the back yard with your parents, evening and intermural water polo matches, guard-comps, your Belleville wedding, warm-hearted friendship... and much much more...

With Love,

Every once in awhile you meet people who leave an indelible mark. Scott did that for so many people. I was fortunate enough to have worked and swam with Scott. We had many adventures in our lifeguarding days. I have a distinct memory of Scott sleeping on a kid bed at our farm. His long legs coming out of the footboard along with Mike´s (Zedder) dog who decided he would join Scott in that bed. I will always remember Geoff referring to Scott as "The Doctor ". My heart goes out to you and your children Kristin along with the many friends and family who I know are really feeling this loss.

I was so saddened to hear about Scott. We first met while lifeguarding at Sunnyside Pool back in the late 1980's. Our paths crossed more than a few times over the years. This picture was taken October 2009 at Scott and Kristen's cottage outside of Bellville.
Scott was such a wonderful man. Always a blast and I'll never forget him
