Sean WELLAND Obituary

SEAN CAMERON WELLAND 1974 - 2022 It is with heavy hearts and much love that the family of Sean Cameron Welland announce his passing on July 26, 2022, at the age of 48. Sean passed away peacefully at his home which he loved and where he lived the better part of his life. Sean was a devoted father to his son Cole who was his greatest joy and the light of his life. Sean adored being a dad more than anything. He took great pride in his son and delighted in watching him grow into the kind, intelligent, and thoughtful boy that he is today. When they were together, there were lots of hugs, laughter, some roughhousing and a lot of silliness. Sean loved his son deeply and wholeheartedly. In addition to Cole, Sean leaves behind his Mother Christine Van Klaveren (Ko), his sister Aidan Lyons (Alan) and niece and nephew Poppy and Rowan. He was predeceased by his father, Miceal Welland. He also leaves behind to mourn his loss his aunts Deborah Begley (Ron), Valerie Spraggett, his Uncle Malcolm Welland (Emel), Cole's mother Natalie Shivgulam, his cousins Jennifer, Bryan, Heather and Martha, and his step-family, Susan, Vanessa and Bryn. Sean was a lifetime resident of the Beach Community. He attended Williamson Road Public School and Kew Beach Public School. Sean attended QUEST Alternative before graduating from Malvern Collegiate Institute. He received his Bachelor's degree from The University of Western Ontario and then graduated from the University of Windsor with his Bachelor's of Education. Sean started teaching for the Toronto District School Board in 2000 and quickly became a popular and well-respected educator at Parkdale Junior and Senior School and Ryerson Community School. Sean spent the majority of his career teaching Physical Education and coached countless teams and positively impacted the lives of many of his students over his 22-year career. Coaching was one of Sean's great passions and he took pride in all his teams regardless of whether they won or lost. Sean was always extremely popular due to his easygoing and friendly nature. Once you became friends with Sean, you were a friend for life. Along with his father, Sean was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens. He loved sports and played football and rugby in high school. His favourite pastime was playing a round of golf with friends and family. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Officer Jon Morrice for his kindness and compassion. A celebration of Sean's life will take place on Sunday, September 25 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Balmy Beach Club, 360 Lake Front, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sean's name to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program or the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

Sean, or as I knew him, Mr. Welland was my absolute favourite teacher when I attended Parkdale Public School from 2006-2016. He always made me believe in myself and I still think about him to this day, I truly wish that I got a chance to see him one last time but I know he´s happy where he is now. If the family is reading this you had one of the best guys you could imagine in your lives. My condolences for your loss. JS

Jing and I are still deeply saddened and in disbelief at the sudden passing of our neighbour and dear friend Sean. Far too young to go. He´d always been such a helpful neighbour and we enjoyed hanging out spontaneously when crossing paths on the street. It was a joy watching Cole playing with our kids too. Looking across at Sean´s empty home leaves a very heavy feeling in our hearts. It still doesn´t feel real that he´s gone. The street will never be the same without you Sean, and we´re praying you´re resting well among the stars.
