SHEAHAN BEALE McGAVIN (née Glaspie) 1941 - 2023 Surrounded by her loving family, Sheahan passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023 at the age of 82. She is survived by Gerald, her beloved husband of 61 years; daughters, Catharine (Brien Jacobsen) and Alexia (Drew Coles); and grandchildren, Hugh Jacobsen, Carter Jacobsen and Piper McGavin. Also survived by brother-in- law, Brian McGavin; cousin, April Glaspie of Cape Town, South Africa; and her treasured nieces, nephews and godchildren. Predeceased by parents, Elmer and Poppy Glaspie; and brother, Michael.An alumna of York House School, where she formed so many dear and lifelong friendships, and a graduate of Annie Wright School, Tacoma, Washington and Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri, Sheahan especially valued community contribution, intellectual exploration, and all forms of artistic expression. Throughout her life she immersed herself in Vancouver's cultural organizations, generously sharing her talents and philanthropy, and received the Simon Fraser University Distinguished Community Leadership Award in 2001. Sheahan was passionately devoted to her family, unwavering in her attention, imagination and wisdom, and an expert in conveying her love across distance. Her instincts for learning and inquiry, for listening and appreciating subtleties, her care and comfort, have enriched us all. '. . . my predominant feeling is one of enormous gratitude. I have loved and been loved. I have been given much, and I hope to have given something in return.'A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Church, Kerrisdale, at a later date.
