Sheila CASTLEDINE Obituary

SHEILA CASTLEDINE (née Tierney) Born in Ottawa on November 15, 1961, the third of four children, to Estelle and Jim Tierney. She died on May 24, 2022, after a Fighting Irish battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 60 years old. She was far too young. Sheila's late mother, Estelle, instilled in her the importance and value of an open heart and being a force for good within her community. Following in her beloved mothers' footsteps, Sheila's capacity for giving appeared boundless. She volunteered with special needs students; she adored having 'The Amigos' over for pizza nights or pool days; she hosted magical Christmas parties for the kids of Nesbitt Burns; she fundraised for the Alzheimer Society and spent her time with Alzheimer's residents at St. Patrick's Home. She threw herself into her advocacy with her whole heart. Though she spread her care and energy wherever she went, Sheila would without doubt say that her greatest accomplishment and most soulful joy was raising her two daughters. She had a clear vision and an understanding that they were her most important work. She and Michael raised two kind, self-determined young women. Heather and Victoria, and the giving spirit they also embrace, are Sheila's lasting gift to the world. Exactly as she would have wanted it. Sheila will be remembered for her untethered energy, the best peanut butter cookies ever baked, her love of summers at Grand Lake, her willingness to take on any adventure (especially when prompted by her girls), her complete inability to play it cool when a baby or small child entered a room, her limitless love for her family, and her deep desire to be of service to those around her. She is survived by her husband, Michael; her daughters, Heather (Nick Frears) and Victoria; and stepdaughter, Jennifer (Peter Roberts). She leaves her beloved siblings, Colleen (John Marconi), Danny (Maria) and John (Brook). Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to join the family at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd., Ottawa (between Bayshore and Baseline rd.) on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's Parish Fallowfield, 15 Steeple Hill Crescent, Ottawa on Wednesday, June 1st at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Patrick's Home of Ottawa or tapping into your own inner Sheila and preforming an act of kindness in her honour.
