(née MacKimmie, April 16, 1944 – February 14, 2026) With great sadness we announce that Sherrill Stewart passed away on February 14, 2026, in her 82nd year. She went peacefully at the Glebe Centre in Ottawa, surrounded by family. Sherrill was predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Mary MacKimmie. She is survived by her husband and true love, Donald; her sons, Craig, Ian, and Colin (Laura); grandsons, Nate and Kai; sisters, Marilyn, Karen and Lorraine; and many nieces and nephews. Sherrill was born and raised in Montreal. She received a BSc in Mathematics from McGill University in 1966, and then joined IBM Canada, where she met Donald on basic training. They were married in 1970 and transferred to Toronto, where they spent the next 36 years before retiring to Ottawa. For Sherrill, her three boys were everything. To raise them, she left work in 1973 for seven years and worked part-time for five more. When she returned to work at IBM, she quickly rose from her original role as programmer/analyst to a project manager position. In her younger years, Sherrill's pastimes included skiing, tennis and badminton. Later, she enjoyed bridge, cycling, cross-country skiing and walks. Whatever the activity, she was happiest when she could share it with her husband. A Celebration of Life for Sherrill will be held in Ottawa on February 28th. Email
