Sherwin TUCKER Obituary

On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Sherwin Paul Tucker passed away peacefully, in his 88th year. His final weeks were spent surrounded by family. Sherwin was predeceased by the love of his life, Nancy Tucker (nee Newman), whom he met on a blind date in 1964. Sherwin will be missed by his children, Barbara Crawley (Alistair), Charles (Laura) and David (Charlotte); and his grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Meghan, Alex, Dani, Lauren and Kate. Dear brother of Gloria and Marvin Blier. Son of the late Sally and Irving Tucker. Sherwin was born and raised in Toronto, and was a wheeler dealer well before he became a dentist. As a kid, he was an (unauthorized) seller of balloons at the Santa Claus Parade, sold union jacks when the Queen visited Toronto, and prepared and sold homemade sandwiches on the CP Rail train network. He graduated in 1960 as the gold medalist at the Faculty of Dentistry University of Toronto and began his successful dental practice in Mimico, where he served several generations of families – but very quickly, he re-established his entrepreneurial spirit, and started investing in real estate across Toronto and southern Ontario. He always said he sold too early! An athlete, Sherwin was an excellent squash player, tennis player, sailor, and after retirement, an avid golfer. He joined Islington Golf Club as a novice golfer at the age of 67 and was pleased to be hitting balls there until shortly before his passing. He claimed his chipping and putting improved every year, and believed he could have been a scratch golfer if he only had taken up golf a few years earlier. He was an avid bridge player, a movie buff, a classical music lover, a joke teller and the family historian. The family wishes to thank Team 4 of Care Partners, particularly Minh and Peter, who took such great care of him in the last few weeks of his life. A private service will be held with family, with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Sherwin's memory to the UHN Foundation.

Nancy was the love of his life and he was so proud of his children Barbara, Charles and David. He adored his grandchildren and shared many photos of them over the 10 years that I knew him. I know how much we will all miss him - he was a wonderful human being - husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

My sincerest condolences on Sherwin's passing. William (Bill) Murphy and I played golf with Sherwin every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the past two seasons. Sherwin's love for the game of golf was infectious. He will be greatly missed by Bill and myself. We will remember and cherish his friendship. Sincerely, Sandy
