I am so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. Her dear friend Beverley Billes passed away the beginning of 2021 and always spoke of Shirley with such passion. The two were very close and had a real bond. My condolences to her family and friends.

I was Shirley's housekeeper for more than three years. She was a wonderful person with a warm heart. She always wanted to help everybody. Her smile was everything. I am really going to miss her, and she will be in our hearts forever. May she rest in peace.

Lidija: My thoughts are with you. I know how much Shirley meant to you. Lidija, you shared so many wonderful stories about Shirley and it was evident she meant the world to you ... how no matter what was on your plate, you would set everything aside for Shirley. She was so lucky to have you in her life.
My condolences to the friends and family.

On behalf of CFUW-NT, a university women's organization, I would like to send condolences to her family and friends. Shirley attended our monthly meetings, in the company of Helen Penfold and she made a positive contribution to the club. Shirley led an exemplary life.

My husband Ron and I had the pleasure of meeting Shirley at our son Troy’s concerts several times. We also enjoyed sharing lovely dinners with her at the home of John and Michelle Loftus. She was always so pleasant and had such interesting stories. The picture I am sharing was from one of Troy’s concerts with our Aunt Geraldine. RIP Shirley. You will be missed!

Shirley was my 2nd cousin (our grandmothers were sisters) and so she and her mother were in the lives of the Brady’s from when I was a child. After my sister Sue died in 2016 I would enjoy staying at Shirley’s lovely apt in Toronto and we would have wonderful chats about bygone days. She told me stories about my dad and his parents, what their personalities were, what they liked to do, etc. This was helpful as my grandma died when I was 6, I never know my grandad, and my dad died when I was 18. I am so grateful for her positive and loving presence and influence in my life. I’m all the better for knowing her. Picture is from her wedding at my parent’s home on Oct. 1, 1968.

Sincerest condolences to Shirley's family and friends at her recent passing. Shirley or Madame Shirl to us was a wonderful lady with a saint's disposition and marvellous demeanour. On Saturday nights we enjoyed hosting Shirl and her husband Bill for dinner at our place on Grange Avenue until Bill's passing. Later, spending wonderful evenings at her apartment with family and friends from our Grange Village. We will truly miss her charm and grace. Laurel will miss her monthly chats and I will miss her good humour. RIP lovely Shirl and thank you for the wonderful talks and memories. -ciao Laurel Swanson & angelo sgabellone

Shirley was a dear friend of my Mom, Nan McPhun. They went to high school together and remained lifelong friends. I always remember her coming to my parents Christmas Eve parties and if she and Bill stayed past midnight we all sang her Happy Birthday. She had such a gentle and caring manner. I was always so happy to see her in my parents home and she would often stop by for tea in the afternoon with Mom and we'd have great visit when I came home from school. The "Tall Girl" as my Dad, Don McPhun would affectionately call her- a wonderful person.

Ron loves steak, so we have a well stocked freezer; the last few years, especially during the Covid lockdowns/restrictions we would have almost weekly Steak Nights with Shirley! A Bowmore scotch was waiting for her arrival, followed by generous hunks of steak and sides, ending with a good, gooey dessert! Conversation and stories flowed with the wine, and Shirley, always happy and smiling would once again place first in the Clean Plate Club! We absolutely adored her.

We will miss Shirley's kindness and sense of humour. She always made you feel so welcomed and like you were the absolute focus of her attention. She was a hero to many young women (and, now, not-so young) who knew her and our hearts go out to everyone missing her (and we haven't forgotten you, Bill, either - you're missed, too).
