Shirley GREEN Obituary

SHIRLEY GREEN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley (Russell) Green. She passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 15, 2022, in Brockville, Ontario. Predeceased by her loving husband (Donald Baillie Green) and survived by her children, Debbie (Green) O'Brien, Donald (Lizette) Green, and Ellen (Les) Wallace. Loving grandmother to Michael (Olivia) O'Brien and Matthew O'Brien, Elyse and Erica Green and step grandmother to Mary and Mitch Wallace. She also leaves behind her adoring sister, Jeannie Hickey. Shirley was born on April 30, 1933, in Delta, Ontario. She graduated from nursing school in 1955 at Toronto General Hospital where she created lifelong friendships. After a short time in the nursing world she married Don and happily raised her three children in Brockville. Shirley was an avid sportswoman with a great passion for golf, tennis and bridge. Her renowned one liner "pearls of wisdom" always left us in fits of laughter and affectionately earned her the nickname Pearlie. Shirley felt immensely grateful for her family's philanthropic endeavours. She was especially proud of her involvement with Canadian Aid for Chernobyl where her and Don gave generously to hospitals, orphanages and provided life saving surgeries for families in need. She is also very proud of The Don and Shirley Green Family Charitable Foundation which has supported numerous charities locally and worldwide, including building a SOS children's village in Namibia. These years since her beloved Don left her have been difficult, so we take great comfort in knowing they are reunited and sharing a glass of wine. Together forever. We will all miss you deeply Pearlie! The family would like to thank Denise Peters, Christina Merkx, Emma Wilson, Saumya Thomas, Rebecca Griffin and Kim Martindale for their kind, loving and compassionate care. Special thank you to Sylvia Lariviere for her 36 years of dedication and loyalty. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Brockville Country Club, 1548 King Street West, Brockville on Monday, June 20th from 1 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. with tributes beginning at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Shirley's memory to Canadian Aid for Chernobyl at www.canadianaidforchernobyl.com. Arrangements entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville where condolences may be sent at www.irvinememorial.com.

I am deeply saddened by the loss that your family have encountered. Shirley was a great woman with wonderful and gentle soul who did a lot to make the life of people living far from her native country better. I am honored and blessed to have known her. A good heart has stopped beating a good soul ascended to heaven.
People that depart from this earth never truly leave, for they are still alive in our hearts. Shirley will be truly missed and will always be remembered.

To the family of Shirley Green. We share with you the inconsolable pain of the heavy loss that has befallen you - a wonderful woman, mother, grandmother and friend of many. Shirley gave a piece of her heart to every child in a difficult situation, lonely old people and orphans, and did not leave them without help. She always held out her hand. Give a big smile and hug - she made us all feel significant. May the Lord bless and comfort you and your family during this difficult time of sorrow. Please accept our sincere condolences. Children and parents and Irina Denisenko.

Natasha Kondratenko, Deputy Mayor of the Chausy District, Belarus

May 17, 2022

On behalf of all the residents of the Chausy District, we express our sincere sympathies to the family of Shirley Green. Out of good will and from a good heart, she, along with her late husband Don Green, never refused the help that people needed in difficult times. We would like to thank the Green family for your years of support. Shirley always responded and did not remain indifferent to the problems of children. The successful implementation of many significant social projects in the Chausy district of Belarus would not have been possible without the participation of Shirley and Don Green and family. Shirley did a great job of restoring people's faith in people. Please accept our sincere condolences from mothers with small children in the Chausy district. Shirley's help within the framework of the "Canadian Aid for Chernobyl" project was an invaluable contribution to the development of charity and undoubtedly a tangible support for those in need.
