ACTRESS.
Died on February 5th, 2009. Mother of Kevin and Paul. Mother-in-law of Kevin's wife Sue. Sister of Kenneth and Geraldine Knight. Grandmama of Zachary.
Shirley spent the Second World War in England, emigrating with her parents to St. Catherines in 1947.
After years with professional repertory companies Shirley performed at the Manitoba Theatre Center from 1956 to 1960. She studied with Uta Hagen in New York and, returning to Toronto in 1961, acted in major roles in radio, television, films and theatre.
In 1975 Shirley became director of publicity at MacMillan of Canada. After a fifteen year career as an editor, she taught acting for nine years in Cambridge, England. In 1990 Shirley received the gold medal with honours and diploma for acting from the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts.
