SHONA JANE ELIZABETH YOUNG

SHONA JANE ELIZABETH YOUNG obituary

SHONA YOUNG Obituary

(formerly Dicks) May 22,1987 – November 30, 2025 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shona, beloved daughter of Mary Young and Doug Dicks; and sister to Alison Young. Shona lived her life with courage and determination despite the increasingly severe suffering caused by Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (E.D.S.). An animal lover from childhood, she became a very proficient horseback rider. Shona adored her horse, Kiwi, and all seven of our cats. She excelled in soccer, figure skating and baseball until her joint instability prevented her from participating further. As her days became more limiting, she filled her time with reading, puzzles, knitting, cross-stich, photography and learning Spanish. Shona was a huge Blue Jays fan, funny, generous to a fault, and a loyal friend who touched the lives of all who knew her. Shona, who latterly preferred the name "Lizzie," tried to smile no matter what and did everything that she could to educate the medical community and friends alike on the pain and disfunction that E.D.S. can cause. A Celebration of Life will be held at Eglinton St. George's United Church, 35 Lytton Blvd., Toronto, M4R 1L2, on Thursday, December 18th, at 1 p.m., with visitation before the service. Death is a part of life and while very sad, we shall always remember Shona and her zest for a life that was worth living; her amazing strength, love of family, friends and animals will never be forgotten. She is surely in a better place. Rest in peace Shona.

I first met Shona at Sunnybrook Stables way back. She became a student of mine and followed me to Churchill Chimes where she met Kiwi and later purchased her. Always a determined and great rider she had a passion for everything she did. She was a remarkable young woman and brave soul. I am glad you are no longer in pain you can now ride and jump Kiwi over those big jumps that you loved to do so much. Rest in peace sweet girl.

We remember Shona from her childhood years and what a dear, sweet, intelligent and funny girl she was. We were fortunate to enjoy a number of ski and camping trips with her family. Mary, Alison, and Doug, we are mournfully sorry for your loss. Shona was very special!
