Sonia LESLIE Obituary
Sonia Mabel Leslie
It is with profound sadness that
the family announces the
passing of Sonia Mabel Leslie
on August 20, 2015, at the
tender age of 84. Sonia, loving
wife, mother, mother-in-law
and grandmother lost her 5
year battle to multiple myeloma
and lung cancer. Sonia was
born and raised in Newcastle
Upon Tyne, England, but
Canada had been home for
more than 50 years. Sonia is
survived by her loving husband
of 53 years, Alan; and was the
most wonderful mother to her
three children, Craig
(deceased), Andrew (Michele)
and Moira (Tony). She was also
Nana to her fabulous
grandchildren, Alex, Robbie and
Russell. Sonia spent the
majority of her working years as
a most beloved teacher at
Windfields Junior High School
She was an avid gardener who
not only had a green thumb
but, her family believes green
hands. She could turn a
shrivelled brown twig into the
most spectacular flowering
shrub. She earned her degree
as a Master Gardener and spent
years heavily involved with the
Toronto Botanical Gardens
where she sat on the board, as
well as being an active tour
guide of both the park and the
Toronto Music Garden at
Harbourfront.
A Memorial Reception will be
held at York Cemetery, 160
Beecroft Road, North York at 2
p.m. Sunday, August 23rd
There will be a private family
burial.
In lieu of flowers, a donation
may be made in Sonia's name
to The Toronto Botanical
Garden.
