SMYTHE, Stefanie Mae (nee Dedrick)
Died peacefully at her home near Thornbury on Tuesday, April 6, 1999, after a serious illness borne, with great courage. A thoughtful, talented and gracious person., Stefanie is deeply mourned by her family and many dear friends in the Toronto area. Dearly beloved wife of Brian Smythe, devoted companion and comforter throughout her illness. Mourning the loss of a dear sister and sister-in-law are Bruce and Lenore Dedrick, Long Island, New York; Christopher and Moira Dedrick, Caledon; Jason and Yanela Dedrick, San Diego; Sandra Dedrick, Palgrave; and Ellen Mann, Connecticut. Cherished daughter-in-law of Eric and Shirley Smythe, Toronto; also sadly missed by Peter Smythe, Toronto; and Susan Smythe and her husband Stephen Corner, Mississauga. Predceased by her parents Arthur and Jessie Dedrick of Delevan, New York; born there in 1952, she is affectionately remembered by many others in the extended Dedrick and Smythe families. Stefanie was a graduate of State University of New York at Brockport, and a member of CASLPO. In her work as a Speech-Language Pathologist, she touched the lives of countless children and their families. During her career inToronto, she was employed by Thistletown Regional Centre and the Speech Foundation of Ontario. She founded Speech Communications Ltd. and was its director until 1997. A long-held desitre to live in the country prompted Stefanie and Brian to move to Beaver Valleu in 1996. At ; Maple Bend; Stefanie enjoyed the quiter pace and derived comfort and reassurance from the beauty and tranquility of the countryside. Possessing great warmth, intelligence, and joie de vivre, Stefanie enhanced the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. The families wish to express warmest appreciation to many loyal friends whose numerous visits brought love and encouragement to Stefanie throughout her illness, and to Myrna Goetz, Brenda Heathers, and Diane Wark of Para-Med Health Service, Owen Sound, whose professional help and concern contributed immeasurably to Stafanie's comfort. Gratitude is extended to Dr. Wong, Meaford; the VON Nurses of Grey-Bruce; and the staff of the Neuromuscular Clinic at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, for their attentiveness throughout. Cremation has taken place. A family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Artrangements private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the A.L.S. Society, Metro Toronto and Area, 6 Adelaide Street East, Suite 220A, Toronto, M5C 1H6, would be appreciated by the family.
