STEPHEN METCALFE Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Stephen Andrew Metcalfe announces his death on July 4, 2025. Surrounded by loved ones after a fourteen-month battle with pancreatic cancer, he transitioned on his terms, in the sunshine and under a canopy of trees. He valiantly fought the disease with incredible stoicism and dignity, while shining a bright light on those around him. He was a loving son, devoted husband, much-loved brother and father, adored uncle and loyal nephew, friend and mentor to all. Stephen was a wonderful cook, an avid fisherman, a keen hunter, and a caring contributor to his community. He was a role model to his children, leading his son and the 69th Cub Scout troop in many outdoor pursuits. His passions included cricket, geocaching, curling, snowboarding, gardening, blink-182, country music, and home improvements. Perhaps most of all, Stephen loved the sport of rugby, which he played into his late 30s with both the Toronto Scottish and at Wilfrid Laurier University. Stephen is survived by his parents Gary and Carolyn, wife Coralie, children Jack and Annie, brother Peter (Susan), brother Paul (Alexia) and nieces and nephews Claire, Henry, Pierce, Evan, Zoë and Axel. He is fondly remembered by his godmother Aunt Sally and Uncle Alan and their family in Australia and his wife's aunts, uncle and cousins and their families in Toronto. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 10th (4-7 p.m.) at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel (1403 Bayview Ave.), followed by a Celebration of Life Friday, July 11th (2-4 p.m.) at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club (44 Price St.). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation at thepmcf.ca or by calling 416-946-6560. Please select "Give in Memory" to dedicate your donation in Stephen's memory. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

Hi, I am a fellow Scouter from the 69th where Steve, Boomer as I knew him lol..volunteered with his kids.
I am so happy to have gotten the chance to know Steve just a bit, I respected him greatly and appreciated the skills he brought to the kids, he and I were cut from the same cloth. I am so glad that I got the chance to attend a camp with him just a few short weeks ago.. I wish I had said more.

To the family, I am heartbroken for you. I know, a bit, a couple of your kids and if you choose to continue in Scouts I will support them with my best ability. Be strong.

I am so sorry to hear about Stephen. We met when I was first starting my career and Stephen was a few years in. He was a great resource for me and a great role model. He was taken too soon.

I´m so sorry to hear about Stephen. It´s incredibly difficult to think that both Stephen and Scott are gone-two of my favorite people from Mackie (Research Capital).
Coralie, my heart goes out to you and your children during this time of profound loss. I hope you can find some comfort in the love and life you shared together. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Steve was more than a trusted business colleague; he was a friend and confidant. Steve and I met when we were both new to the business and our relationship stretched over nearly 25 years. I could always count on Steve for support whenever it mattered most. I will miss his good humor, his wit, his intellect, most of all I will miss his friendship. May the Lord bless you, Steve. Rest In Peace.
