Died suddenly on Monday, May 3, 1999. Steve was born in Canada on April 14, 1967. Steve and his family enjoyed their summers in Peterborough, Ontario with family and friends. Steve will be greatly missed by his wife Susan, sons Michael, Ryan and daughter Stephanie. He is also survived by his parents, Betty and Joe Chiasson and siblings Janet, Lorrie, Dan, Susan, Brenda and their families. He will also be sadly missed by Sidney and Gerald Turner, Leslie Keating and Michael Turner. Steve will be remembered as an amazing father, husband, friend, teammate and an all around great guy. Steve touched many lives in his brief journey and was an inspiration to all who knew him. Steve enjoyed 13 seasons in the National Hockey League and was a current member of the Carolina Hurricanes. Steve played his minor hockey in Peterborough before graduating to the Ontario Hockey League. Steve led Guelph to the 1986 Memorial Cup Championship, capturing the Tournament M.V.P. Award. Steve also represented Canada at the 1987 World Junior Championships. He was an N.H.L. All-Star in 1994-95 with the Detroit Red Wings. He also captured a Gold Medal For Canada at the World Hockey Championships in 1997. Steve's passion for Hockey was superseded only by his love of family and those close to him. The family will receive friends at the Comstock Funeral Home, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 7th. Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains, 411 Reid Street, Peterborough on Saturday, May 8, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully received for the Peterborough Minor Hockey Association or the Canadian Cancer Society (Breast Cancer Research).
