STEVEN ANNE HORN obituary

STEVEN HORN Obituary

Born in Baarn, the Netherlands, on May 19, 1944, Steven died of cancer in Nanaimo, BC, on September 17, 2025. He was a graduate of Victoria High School, Victoria, BC, earning degrees from the Universities of Victoria (BA), Toronto (MLS), and Saskatchewan (JD), and a diploma in legislative drafting from the University of Ottawa. He had two careers, the first as a librarian, mainly in Ottawa and Brampton, ON, the second as a lawyer, mainly in Whitehorse, YK, where he was Legislative Counsel and Chief Legislative Counsel for 20 years. With his beloved wife, Marian (Meg), née Gelinas, he retired to the Nanaimo area in 2011. Not long after Meg's death in 2019, Steven's health took a turn for the worse, prompting a move to Lakeside Gardens Seniors Community. He was active in his professions, had a fine sense of humour, and loved cats. He was also an avid fan of the L.A. Dodgers. Steven was predeceased by his parents, Daniel Horn and Antje Horn-Reitsma, and his brother, Johannes, a.k.a Joe. He is survived by his brothers, Peter (Raquel), Michiel (Cornelia), H. Jack (Annètje), and Jan D., as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins in nine countries. Cremation has taken place; at Steven's request, there was no service. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
