SUSAN LOUISE HOWE (née Penny) 1956 - 2021 Susan Louise Howe passed unexpectedly and far too early on Sunday, May 9, 2021, at the age of 65. She was the loving wife and life partner of Sean for 43 years. Devoted mother and spoiler of Ryan and his wife Montanna (née Dunmore), Colin (the little one) and his wife Sarah (née Scholes), Geoff and his wife Sheila (née McNeill), and her rambunctious retriever Tofi, who was also her best friend and confidante. Cherished Nana of Brooks, the ninja warrior who will miss his grandmother's unconditional love, exorbitant care packages, and daily praise. Beloved sister of Jennifer Pagnutti, Stuart, and Deborah. Daughter of Cynthia (née Scrymgeour) and Wayne. Susan's memory will always be cherished by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Our prayers are that her memory is memorialized by her commitment and dedication to family, partnership, and motherhood. The family would like to thank the physicians and specialists who provided such great care of Susan, and the many family and friends who have reached out, for their amazing support during this impossibly difficult time. Anyone who knew Susan would say she was wickedly smart, loved to laugh, and loved to spoil anyone in her family and circle of friends (including Tofi!) with her amazing cooking, sewing, and other artisanal goods. She was a selfless person who gave everything she had to those around her, often to a fault. She will be remembered most for her fierce pride of her sons and by her selfless commitment to acts of kindness and generosity. Professionally, Susan received her MBA from the University of Auckland at the age of 38 while raising 3 young (and wonderfully active) children at home in a foreign country. Her career was diverse and successful, but most notably she was a trail blazer in the caregiving world helping hundreds of working mothers in Ottawa. She finished her career in the federal government with the Department of Public Safety. She was courageous, strong-willed, and was a worthy opponent in any debate, as Sean and her siblings can attest. She was an advocate for women's rights and did not shy away from reinvention and challenge. She will be sorely missed by everyone, and the lives of her immediate family are hugely diminished in her absence. Their world is not as bright as it once was. A service for Susan will not be held, at present. A celebration of her life will follow once the pandemic has subsided, and family and friends can celebrate her life properly.
