Susan MERRY Obituary
SUSAN MERRY March 27, 1937 - August 27, 2021 Susan Merry (nee Richardson) was born in Toronto to parents George A. Richardson (Grumpy) and Justine Richardson (Babs). She was predeceased by her brother Sandy Richardson and sister Liz Peachell. Sue attended Branksome Hall in Toronto, followed by a brief stint at Elmwood School in Ottawa. She went to finishing school at Brillamont in Lausanne, Switzerland. Her favourite subject was alpine skiing; decorum came a close second. In her heyday, Sue was an accomplished golfer and a very involved member of Rosedale Golf Club. She also ruled the curling rink for many years as a skip at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club, one year making it as far as the Ontario championships. It's fair to say Sue was an avid sports fan. She followed international tennis, golf, all the Toronto sports teams. Once her children were grown Sue became a world traveller, seeing the globe with her dear friend Anne Nerby. One of her great passions in life was photography, so the family saw the world vicariously through her voluminous pictures. She earned the name 'pinhead', via the CBC, while travelling far and wide to watch the Silver Broom, the World Curling Championships. She was often seen wearing a Tyrolian hat covered in international curling pins. Sue will be missed by her many friends in Naples, Florida. She travelled there for almost 25 years as it became her second home during winter months. Sue is survived by her three children Susan Merry (Todd Race), David Merry (Cathy Merry) and Judy Merry (William Potalivo). Sue's greatest pleasure, her point of pride, and most photographed subjects were her grandchildren: Adam, Brian, Michael, Charlie, Victoria, Julia, Flora, Rylan and Miranda. She considered them her greatest accomplishment! Much to their embarrassment and collective amusement she had a legendary collection of Christmas sweaters and socks. In the last months of her life, Mum took up watercolour painting. She had quite a knack for it and it gave her great pleasure. The family wishes to extend our most heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Sunrise of Aurora. We could not have asked for more attentive and loving care particularly in these COVID times. Cremation and a private family service took place earlier this week.
