SUSAN NELSON Obituary

(nee Rance) On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, our beautiful Sue passed peacefully, as the sun was setting at Sunnybrook Hospital, surrounded by family, wrapped in love. Beloved wife to Bryan; incredible Mom/Mama Bear to Will (Leah) and Katie (Pete); and cherished Nana to Jackson, Olivia, and Carter. Sue was full of life, love, and kindness. Her warm smile truly felt like endless sunshine. She gave so much of herself to helping others (a devoted volunteer for 35 years in The Critical Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital). Sue loved her family and friends more than anything; as well as a four-hour lunch followed by a chat and a cup of coffee. A favourite poem of Sue's, an excerpt from Helen Lowrie Marshall's Afterglow: "I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when the day is done." Sue was a beautiful person inside and out, when you were with her you tried to be a better person, a better version, of yourself. We know she will be cherished in all of your hearts and forever imprinted on ours. We will hold her memory close and through smiles and happy tears we will celebrate her each and every day. We look forward to having a cuppa tea or glass of Pinot Grigio when we meet again. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Sunnybrook Hospital – The Critical Care Unit.

Susan was my godmother and though I had not seen her in many years, I remember her as a warm and kind soul, with a beautiful smile. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Bryan, Katie, and Will, we were so very sad to hear about Susan. While it has been many years since we have connected we remember your family fondly especially our time with you in Muskoka. Susan´s margaritas were the best! Thinking of you and the rest of the family at this difficult time. Be well and be at peace.

Dear Bryan, Will, & Kate and all your family.
Although we have not seen Susan & her family since our young men graduated from Crescent School we have such fond memories of them.
Susan volunteered at Crescent school fundraisers and I remember especially helping me out with the bake table at the annual school rummage sale.
My husband Bernie was a Cub and then Scout leader to Will and saw Susan every week when she dropped Will off.
Now our Michael sees Will on the ski slopes.
Our hearts ache for all of you at your loss.
Susan was always so kind and giving. We enjoyed many chats on the phone and in person.
Taken far too young.
May God bless all of you.
Fondly, and with our deepest sympathies.

I have worked with Susan for 25 years as part of the Volunteer Resources team at Sunnybrook. Her dedication to her role and desire to help others were only outshone by her warm smile. The world feels like a different place without her in it. Warmest regards to the family during this time of grief and hoping many happy memories of her sustain you.

Absolutely the best friend anyone could possibly have. I was the lucky one. She will be watching over all of us and making sure we are smiling through our grief. Love you all.
