SUSAN VALERIE ZIMMERMAN August 19, 1958 - February 5, 2023 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Zimmerman, on Sunday, February 5, 2023. Wife of George Iny. Predeceased by her father, Alfred (Alfie) Zimmerman, whose wry sense of humour she inherited; and by her mother, Shirley Zimmerman, with whom she shared a love of theatre and a lust for life. Susan was an articulate, cultured and chic woman, who also loved boxing and weight training. An avid reader, Susan spoke six languages, was a ballet and jazz dancer, and a cyclist. Susan and George were soulmates, sharing a deep appreciation for one another and a wide range of activities. Born in Montreal, Susan received an undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College, civil and common law degrees at McGill University, and a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto. She was a trailblazer in health law and policy. From 2007 until her illness in 2021, Susan was the Executive Director of the Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research in Ottawa. Susan's tenacity in the face of her illness over the past eighteen months was inspirational. She will be missed by her friends, sisters, cousins, niece, and nephew, and George's family, of which she was a cherished member. Special thanks to Morrie and Shaina, Kate and Robert for their devotion and compassion. The family would also like to acknowledge the team at the Ottawa General Hospital Cancer Centre for their care. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 rue Jean Talon Ouest, on Wednesday February 8, at 12:00 p.m. Burial at the Beit Abraham Congregation Section, Kendal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O. Shiva Wednesday following burial until 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Charity of Your Choice or to the Ottawa General Hospital Foundation, (613) 761-4295.
