Sylvia and I became friends in the last several years of her life. We talked about many things, and occasionally fed each other. Jewish women, huh? I keep wanting to send you emails about things that would interest you, Sylvia. I guess I will just talk to your photo, instead. Farewell out there somewhere!

Dear Jacob, Abba and family - Sylvia was one of the most amazing people I have ever met. Her sense of artistry, her warms, thoughtfulness, passion and honesty made every conversation something special. Although I lost touch, over the past few years since my mother Ruthie Mulstein passed away, I have often thought of her. My deepest sympathy on your loss. Warm wishes to you all.

Dear Jacob, Abba and family,
I was absolutely devastated to recently hear of Sylvia's passing. She was an incredible woman - creative, brilliant, vibrant and a truly original thinker. We were supposed to get together this summer for a visit - I so regret that I didn't have the privilege of seeing her again. Our deepest sympathies go out to you all.

We had the privilege of working Sylvia as a working group member for the Canadian Geriatrics Society Medical student competency working group. Syliva was a vital force to our working group, she kept us all grounded with her thought provoking questions, informed us what is important from an older adult´s prospective. She shaped the final Aging Care 5M competencies for the Canadian medical students. She was honoured in 2022 Canadian Geriatrics Society annual scientific meeting for her contributions. She was a remarkable woman, full of energy and very kind. She will never be forgotten and her memories will live forever in our heart and her contributions will be remembered by generations of geriatric medical educators and students.

On behalf of the Baycrest Hospital and Long Term Care Home, Senior Executive Team, and Client Relations and Experience Office who worked very closely with Sylvia, we would like to extend our deepest condolences for your loss. Sylvia was very passionate and involved as a Client and Family Partner, which refers to community members who donate their time providing their insight and feedback to improve client experiences at Baycrest. Sylvia has made countless contributions to improving the organization for the community we serve, and has been an integral member in every committee, working group, and initiative she participated in. She always impressed us with her fortitude, extensive knowledge, and dedicated advocacy for the older adult, and was widely known by everyone she interacted with as impactful and brilliant every time she spoke. Sylvia´s wit and kindness touched the hearts of those she worked with and she will be greatly missed by the staff, physicians, and partners here at Baycrest.

Dear Jacob, Abba, and family,
We will deeply miss Sylvia. It was in 1974 that I first received a call from her. She believed that we should meet and create a joint outreach program in our roles as Homefinding Supervisors at the Toronto Children's Aid and the Catholic Children's Aid. Sylvia opened many doors for me professionally and taught me how to "think big" about the role of the Social Worker. I don't recall how our relationship transitioned into a friendship between our families. Charles and Peter had many long discussions about Middle East politics and Sylvia and Charles about gardening. Our children, Nada and Aftim basked in their warmth and interest growing up.
When tragedy struck our family, for many months, Sylvia would call at least weekly. These weekly check-ins became a life-line.
Through these many years, I've always felt I could tell Sylvia anything, including my failures and fears, and she would listen and not judge. Yet, within this profound acceptance, she expected something and that was that I give my personal best in all that I did.
For Charles and I the memories crowd in with her passing and, as we remember her, the words "stewardship, steadfastness, energy and Joy" come mind.
Please know that our thoughts are with you and the family at this time. May the memories of your lives together give you peace and strength.

Dear Jacob, Abba, and family,
Our deepest sympathies to you for the loss of your beloved mother, Sylvia.
Sylvia was an extraordinary woman whose presence brought joy and inspiration to those fortunate enough to know her.
We hold dear the memories we shared with her, such as a particular day in Washington, D.C. We vividly recall her zest for life as she fearlessly navigated the city's art exhibits and monuments, even in the sweltering heat of summer. Her energy was remarkable, matched only by her intelligent interpretations and thought-provoking opinions on everything we encountered. It was a privilege to witness her vibrant spirit and engage in enriching conversations.
Additionally, we had the pleasure of recently watching Sylvia's interview on The Yiddish Book Center's Oral History Project, uploaded to Youtube. Her captivating presence, honesty and insightful reflections were a true delight, showcasing her intellect and her passion for preserving cultural heritage. The interview serves as a lasting testament to her remarkable legacy.
Sylvia holds a special place in our hearts, and we admired her greatly. She was not only welcoming, generous, and hospitable to us, but she also possessed a unique ability to make every interaction warm, and memorable. Her free-spirited nature and warm personality created an atmosphere of joy & fun whenever we were in her presence.
May the cherished memories you shared with Sylvia bring you comfort and strength during this difficult time. Please know that our thoughts are with you and your entire family as you navigate this journey of grief.
With heartfelt condolences and love,
Mark & Eugenia
