Taras SHIPOWICK Obituary

TARAS (TERRANCE) SHIPOWICK January 24, 1952 - February 14, 2024 Taras passed peacefully, at home on Valentine's Day. He will be dearly missed by his partner of 47 years, Pearse Murray; and by the many who experienced the love, friendship and joy he brought to their lives. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Irene; and is survived by his brother, Wesley (Lesia); and sister, Donna (Patrick). Gifted with both a wonderful singing voice and dance prowess, he used his talents as a brilliant stager and choreographer through his company, Showmakers, and produced spectacular shows and events - including the Brazilian Ball, the Toronto International Caravan, Mary Kay's annual corporate celebrations, the gala in Ottawa for Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee, and the Nylons whom he brought together. This humble, generous, caring, soul who helped, inspired, and was dearly loved by so many will have his final resting place at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre. Visitation is at 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m. followed by reception at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Volodymyr Institute (620 Spadina Avenue, Toronto) or a Charity of Your Choice.

I am deeply saddened as I´ve just learned about the passing of Taras, an astute businessman and a creative genius. He was a thoughtful, down-to-earth, caring human being with a very intuitive gift of reading people and understanding situations and circumstances.
My business relationship with Taras began in 1989 and I´ve had the pleasure of working with him and his staff for over 12 years executing some of the most memorable corporate events. He wasn´t a business associate; he was a friend.
Producing several specialized events for the association´s annual gathering over a three-day period, for over twelve years and never failed to wow an audience of over 2,500 people speaks to his brilliant mind in creating one-of-a-kind events.
He was passionate about his work and worked tirelessly alongside his staff to bring each event to life. But regardless of his own tiredness and lack of sleep, his compassion and care for others was undeniable. The jobs we both did require tireless hours, but he always found a way to alleviate my concerns and send me off to bed to get some much-needed rest. These memories are still so vivid, and you will always remain forever in my heart, some fond and beautiful memories.

My deepest love and condolences.

I found out quite late of Taras' passing. Every day since then, I have had so many thoughts of the times we shared. First of all, to dear Pearse, I send my best vibrational energy to help you through these sad and tough times. How I wish I could have been there for the memorial. Taras was my event mentor through and through. He gave me my first break in 1987 working with him on the 'Too Outrageous' after-party in the Ballroom of the Royal York. It was a huge success. After that I was a permanent part of the Showmakers team for 4 years. And they were wonderful years. Taras taught me the yes's and the no's of running a high-level event. He took me behind the scenes, put me in front of the scenes. He inspired me, challenged me and he was my friend, boss, teacher, and even my client. Most year, I called him on his birthday as I did this year. I didn't hear back and I know now why not. I hope you enjoy these pics, and again to dear Pearce, Taras family who were so precious to him, and to his many close friends, I send my heartfelt condolences. Most Sincerely Carol

I am among the "so many" and have more memories of the remarkable and inimitable Taras than would fit here. It was one of the sparkling bits of life to have known him.
