TED MCCORMICK Obituary
March 25, 1926 - December 5, 2024 Ted passed away peacefully, in Peterborough, Ontario, at the age of 98. He was born in Belleville, Ontario, to Ernest McCormick (Photographer) and his wife, Laura. Ted married his high school sweetheart, best friend, and love of his life, Maggie (Eileen Margaret Cameron, dec.), daughter of Judge Charles Cameron and Eileen Cameron. They had four children: Cameron McCormick (Julie Ann), Jane Lotimer (Jim, dec.), Sally Joyce (Dan), and Anne Flanagan. Ted and Maggie had ten loving grandchildren: Sara (Ian), Elizabeth (Josh), Adam (Jess), David (Eden), Suzie (Jeremy), Heather (Dave), Andy (Susan), Paul (Kate), Libby (Glen) and Charles (Melanie); and nineteen wonderful great-grandchildren. Ted graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1949, with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was the founding partner of McCormick Rankin Corporation, which became one of Canada's prominent Transportation Engineering Companies, involved in major projects in Canada and abroad. Ted had a youthful spirit, bright mind, an incredible determination, and was very generous. He loved the outdoors and was an avid and "competitive" golfer (Mississaugua, John's Island, Peterborough and Kawartha Golf & Country Clubs), skier (Craigleith Ski Club and lifetime member of Osler Bluff Ski Club) and fisherman (lifetime member of Caughnawana Fishing & Hunting Club). Ted never missed his daily walk. Ted and Mag travelled the world, his best memories being family ski trips in Zermatt. He enjoyed spending time in the summer, at their beloved family cottage north of Bancroft. Mink Lake was his favourite place to be. He and Mag wintered in beautiful John's Island, Vero Beach, FL. Known as Bumpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved by them for his quick wit, sense of humour, and fun-loving nature, "Bumps" will have a special place in their hearts forever. Red geraniums, making fires, reading the Globe, his 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour, and his smart style were signature Ted/Bumpa. Having Maggie, his forever love for over 80 years by his side, was his greatest gift. Ted and Maggie sincerely appreciated the genuine caring they received from their family, their exceptional doctors, and their kind-hearted "gals" who provided companionship, comfort, and joy for them in their home. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Algonquin Park would be gratefully appreciated. A celebration of life for Ted and Maggie will be held at a later date.
