My sincere condolences to MJ´s family. Mary Jane had a significant impact on my life as an athlete and later as a coach. Her contribution to the sport of Artistic Swimming in Ontario specifically was huge. She influenced the lives of so many young women.

I knew Mary Jane as I cared for her beloved cats as their veterinarian. Mary Jane was the best cat mom there was. She was devoted to them and I know they will be missing her dearly. Rest in Peace Mary Jane.

Mary Jane was a huge influence in my Synchronized Swimming life:
As a young swimmer at Dalewood in Hamilton, I was in awe of her powerful and grace in the water! Later, I had the honour of being coached by her in Hamilton and travel across Canada- just MaryJane and the Team...a lot of fun times! Eventually, I was fortunate to be mentored by Mary Jane as a coach, with great success! She was one of the best teachers I ever had, and will alert be remembered with love. Rest in peace, MaryJane.

My story of Mary Jane Ling, I will call her MJ throughout this dialogue. I am Norm Taylor, Leslie Taylor´s husband. The year was 1968 or could have been 1969. MJ came to work at Dalewood Recreation Centre in Hamilton. This was the pool where I met Leslie and where Leslie was Pool Supervisor. Vikki Hinnells Sp, was a Life Guard at Dalewood Centre. She started teaching some kids at the pool Synchronized Swimming. She was transferred to another Centre in Hamilton so Leslie decided to continue the program. She gathered some books on Synchronized Swimming and began teaching some figures. All she had from one of these books was the name of a figure and a demonstration of how the figures were done by Stick pictures. No videos back in those days. MJ took part in these figures as did other girls. A couple of names I remember were Margaret Whyte and Margo Mountjoy although I don´t remember just when they came into the picture. MJ not only swam and did well in solos but she was a big help in choosing music and routine development. With Leslie coaching with different groups of teams Leslie with MJ toured across Canada. The best competitions were in Alberta, Oympium in Toronto and from Quebec. They also travelled in Countries around the world. I can remember Leslie relating one experience while one of her teams was in Berlin. Late one night they were out walking along beside the Berlin wall. This would be a great experience for girls in their early teens. Now I must say this is how I remember it. A lot of those who actually experienced this might say "That´s not how it happened at all. Rest peacefully MJ.
