THOMAS DOAK Obituary

(1938 - 2026) Thomas Doak passed away on January 11, 2026, at Sunset Manor in Collingwood. A retired medical Doctor born in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Tom was a true Irishman. He married Maureen (nee Hawkins), the woman of his dreams, in Belfast, and they soon moved to Canada, sharing 46 wonderful years of marriage filled with music and dancing until her passing in 2011 - a true love story. One can imagine them now, toasting family and friends. A loving father to Pauline and her husband, Ray, and Siobhan and her husband, Rob; and a dear uncle to Michael, Cara and Conor Moore, Kelley Doak, and David and Paul Hawkins, Tom cherished his family deeply. The family wishes to thank Sunset Manor staff for their care, as well as his personal caregiver, Gill, and her daughter, Kayla, for their exceptional support for Dr. D. Tom graduated from Queen's University of Belfast in 1964 and began his Canadian medical career in private practice before finding his calling in occupational and geriatric medicine. Over an exceptional career, Dr. Doak served in many roles; among them, he was occupational director at General Motors' Scarborough Van Plant, oversaw Scarborough's long-term care facilities, and was medical director at Scarborough General Hospital and Rockcliffe Nursing Home. A lifelong animal lover, he retired from his final role at the Toronto Zoo, where he enjoyed walking the grounds in his Welly boots to visit the animals after staff visits. He held deep respect for healthcare professionals and the families of his patients. Dr. Doak loved to ski, scuba dive and golf all over the world and was a member of Alpine Ski Club since 1971. He and Maureen especially treasured Aspen, Colorado, and Marbella, Spain, where they shared countless happy moments with friends and family. Fun followed him wherever he went; he had a natural gift for making friends, captivating others with his stories and wonderful laugh. He was always there for his friends and family, no matter how busy he was. Tom was a lifelong member of Summit Golf and Country Club and an honorary member of Port Rush Golf and Country club in Northern Ireland, in honour of his father, Sam Doak. A true sports fan, Tom was a staunch supporter of all the Toronto sports teams, seeing the Maple Leafs win the Cup in 1967 soon after his arrival, he always thought there'd be many more to come! A celebration of life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
