Tom and I played clarinet together for around twenty years in what is now known as the Fredericton Symphony Orchestra. He was a congenial and charming man. Everybody liked him and he was our president for several years.

Tom helped our family with some daunting legal problems. We will be forever grateful for his sage advice.

Our daughter was a law student of his. They got along extremely well. He was coach of the UNB Moot Team that won the national championship. I'm sure it was a high point in both their lives.

Tom and I were at St. Mike's College at U of T. He was the roommate of my then boyfriend, the author Philip Marchand. We met a few times over later years - once in the subway, once at a rest stop on the 401, a couple of times with Loretta and kids in Kingston when he was on sabbatical and I lived there. Always a reliable, thoughtful friendly face.
