I will never forget how I met Tom. It was a Saturday night during Michaelmas term of my first year at TCS. All the other students had gone to the cinema but I had stayed behind to study. Tom was Master On Duty in Brent that night and when he saw me in the hall he shouted out "You are Malvolio." He was directing a play that term based on the subplot of Shakespeare´s play Twelfth Night and he wanted me to be the main character. He didn´t offer me a choice. That was the beginning of a relationship which endured from that day to the end of his life. He was an inspiration to always think positively, savor every moment and act with enthusiasm.

Among other things, Mr. Lawson taught me how to think on my feet. And always question the accepted "wisdom." I was terrified before my first debate. I didn´t eat all day. But with his guidance and confidence I made it through successfully. And I´ve never been frightened to speak in public since. As an actor, that has been a gift that keeps on giving! RIP, Mr. Lawson. Even at my age I have to call you that. Not Tom. You will always be, "Mr. Lawson."

I have great memories of Tom as an infectiously inspirational Green Party candidate!

The best teachers I ever had, Tom woke up my love of literature, philosophy and critical thinking. He inspired me to become a teacher and was a lifelong mentor. The world needs more people like Tom Lawson, especially in these troubling times.
