THOMAS O'SHAUGHNESSY Obituary

After a full life of 67 years, and a long and tenacious battle with ALS, Tom O'Shaughnessy died at home in Burlington, Ontario, on January 15, 2026. Loving and proud father of Bobby, Shannon and Nolan, Tom was predeceased by his dear wife, Vicki (nee Gibbons) in 2015. Much-loved son of Mary and the late Bob O'Shaughnessy; dear brother of Kathy Fraser (Cam), Maureen O'Shaughnessy (Peter Ortved) and Margot O'Shaughnessy; son-in-law of Kay and the late Robert Gibbons; and brother-in-law of Rob and Mike Gibbons, Tom will be missed by his family and many friends. Tom was a devoted family man, a focused businessman, an all-around athlete, a tech nerd, an enthusiastic sports fan, and a lover of friends, music and parties (especially on St. Patrick's Day). When Tom received his diagnosis of ALS, he was told he had five years at most. He took as his motto "NFQ. Never quit. The F is silent." Tom having long outlived expectations, the family is especially grateful to the large community of friends, family, medical and personal caregivers who have provided love and support all along the way. Plans for a celebration of Tom's life will be shared some time in the future. Donations to ALS Canada gratefully accepted. Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home, Burlington (905-632-3333). Tom was a very good friend for many years. We met at the beginning of our careers at Canada Life (early 20s) and did sports, drinking and partying together for the next 40+ years.

It was easy being friends with Tom, he was loads of fun and always in a good mood.

My deepest condolences to Bobby, Shannon, Nolan, Kathy, Margot, Maureen and Mary

Nora and I did not know Tom personally, but knew of him through his sister Maureen and brother-in-law Peter Ortved. We heard how they respected and admired his tremendous spirit and grit-his Churchillian, "Never give up. Never, never give up." (Sic!). May Tom now rest in peace after his long and courageous battle, and may his family be consoled through his lasting legacy.

Dear Bobby, Shannon and Nolan,

Please accept our sincere condolences on the recent passing of your Dad, Tom. Although it has been a number of years since we met, he was always quick to smile and ready to stop for a friendly chat. Tom fought the good fight and finished the race. May He Rest In Peace.
