Age 73. Passed away October 29, 2000. Husband of Louise Kelly. Former husband of Olga Seradoka. Survived by eleven children: daughters Mary Lynn (Lyall Johnston) of Toronto, Mary Michele (Paul French) of Toronto, Mary Roberta (Phil Lori) of Australia, Mary Geraldine (Dr. Ted Kubicki) of Virginia Beach; sons Dr. Thomas (Jennifer) of Windsor, Christopher (Karen) of Owen Sound, Dr. Mark (Cathy) of London, Dr. Patrick (Shannon) of Windsor, Charles (Brenda) of Windsor, Michael (Kate) of Toronto, Daniel of Windsor; godson Ralph ;The Fox Sinke of Michigan. Predeceased by parents Thomas A.M. Smith, Florence Lewis-Smith. Loving grandfather of twentyfive grandchildren. Brothers Fred Smith of London, and Ed Smith of Toronto. Sister Mary Debevc of Windsor. Born in Leamington, Ontario, August 3, 1927. He attended Leamington High School, Assumption College School, and the University of Windsor. Tom began his military career as a Naval reservist ordinary seaman in HMCS Hunter in 1946. He became chief of reserves for Canadian Armed Forces and with his appointment as Rear-Admiral in 1983 became the first Admiral (Reserve) in Canada's history. Tom was first chairman of the Maritime Defence Association and received the Canadian Forces Decoration three times. In 1981 he was awarded Commander of Military Merit. He also served as Canadian delegate and speaker to NATO, Brussels. In civilian life Tom was teacher, coach, and vice-principal or Corpus Christi/Brennan High School. He was manager of Organization and Development of Chrysler Canada, senior training manager at Imperial Oil, on the board of directors of the Canadian Corps of Commissionnaires and Windsor United Way. Tom instituted several programs in employee development and was in demand as a public speaker. Visiting at the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 1700 Tecumseh Road East, from Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass from St. Anne's Walkerville Church, 2135 Richmond Street, Wednesday, November 1st, 2000 (time later). Cremation Windsor Memorial Crematorium. Memorial donations may be made to the Lassaline Fathers Mission, Madagascar.
