THOMAS T. TIDWELL

(1939 - 2025) Tom Tidwell spent most of his career working at the University of Toronto as Professor of Chemistry and was Acting Dean at Scarborough College. Besides teaching and lecturing, Tom mentored many enthusiastic research students and fellows and had collaborators from around the world. With them, he had over 300 publications, carrying out studies in several aspects of organic chemistry. He became an expert on the chemistry of ketenes and wrote two books and several reviews on them. Tom travelled widely and talked in many countries at national and international conferences. He was involved with several international chemical societies and organizations organizing conferences and symposia. Tom kept in shape by jogging and playing tennis. Tom died December 29, 2025, in Sun City Center, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50+ years, Sarah; and two nieces, Cynthia T. Weiss and Susan T. Birkinshaw. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association and Doctors Without Borders.
