Thomas UNGAR Obituary

THOMAS UNGAR (Tom) May 4, 1953 - November 29, 2021 On Monday, November 29, 2021, Tom passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Elaine and son of Eva and the late Paul Ungar. Devoted father and father-in-law of Allan and Jessica Ungar, Stephen Ungar and Victoria Neufeld, Melanie Ungar and Shane Rodness. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Susie Ungar and Ed Hussman, Vivian Ungar and Selwyn Katzenberg, Melissa Ungar and Jim DeMelo, and Herbie Greenwood. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and his many dear friends. Tom will be remembered for his smile, warmth, generosity, and his love for life, always eager to help anyone in any way he could. He was passionately involved in the Jewish community, and several organizations and charities. In particular, he served as president of the Jewish National Fund for several years, and sat on the board of the Reena Foundation for the past 40 years, and served as local president to the Israel Antiquities Authority, working passionately to better the Jewish community here in Toronto and in Israel. An avid animal lover, Tom also sat on the board of The Toronto Humane Society. The family wishes to thank the incredible and compassionate team of doctors, nurses, and volunteer members at Hatzoloh and Echo who worked tirelessly around the clock over the last several weeks. Memorial donations may be made to The Jewish National Fund (416) 638-7200, The Reena Foundation (Ext.3630) (905) 763-8254, or Hatzoloh Toronto (416) 398-2300.

My best to all of Tom's loved one's. We met over our love of watches and 4 legged friends and being fellow landsman. Great guy and the world was a better place because of him.

Tom was a wonderful man who I had the pleasure of meeting several years ago. An avid watch lover and collector I will miss hearing his insight and opinions on all things horology. Sending all my love to his family. Tom will be remembered dearly.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Tom. I had the pleasure of knowing Tom many years ago during our working days. We got to know each other because of business but also become friends during that time.
