Thomas WARD Obituary

THOMAS FREDERICK WARD MD Tom, born November 23, 1945, died of cancer on November 24, 2021 in his Victoria, BC home. He is survived by his wife, Marlie Manning; daughters, Johanna Ward and Jennifer Boon (Ben); grandchildren, Eloise and Samuel Boon (Vancouver); sister, Mary and her family (Regina). His was a prairie childhood. His life's work was in five provinces, and spanned the health care sector - from bedside to boardroom. He began as a neonatologist in Saskatoon then Edmonton, followed by decades in health care administration. He worked in hospitals, health authorities and provincial ministries - VP Medical Affairs, St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver; Deputy Minister of Health, Nova Scotia; consultant to several senior health care agencies. Tom was privileged to paddle in the VisionQuest Journeys 97. In retirement, he found time for painting, gardening, cycling and travel. He doted on his grandchildren. He was a volunteer for the 2010 Paralympics, sponsor of four refugee families, supporter of his city's arts community and painter. Forever missed by many.

Tom will be missed so much by the both of us. We enjoyed the many get togethers with Tom and Marlie. Especially for Sadie who enjoyed the cheese and red pepper treats that Tom would discreetly hide in his pockets. Many shared and wonderful memories.

My sincere condolences! Tom was U of SK medical classmate, very much appreciated, well thought of, and it would appear to have had a very successful career!
