It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the death of Timothy Frank Hartnagel, on July 15, 2024, at the age of 82. Tim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 59 years, Patricia; children, Gregory (Lorna) and Julia (Ron); grandchildren, Lauren and Eric; sister, Kathleen, (John); as well as numerous other relatives. Tim was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1941, to Bonnie and Frank Hartnagel. Growing up, he was actively involved in a variety of sports and was a child actor, appearing in numerous television shows and movies. His "career" continued through his university days, while attending Santa Clara University. After graduation, Tim met Patti on a blind date and the rest is history. They moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where Tim attended Indiana University, and obtained a Masters and Ph.D. in Sociology. With their young family, they then moved to Washington, D.C. for three years, while Tim served his mandatory U.S. Military service. In 1970, Tim and his family moved to Edmonton, having accepted a teaching position at the University of Alberta. The Californians viewed this as a very temporary experience. What started as a short adventure for a few years became a 40-year career as a Professor of Sociology, specializing in Criminology. During that time, Tim also served two terms as the Dean, of St. Joseph's College. Tim retired in 2007, as a Professor Emeritus. He was highly regarded in his profession and impacted countless students, over the course of his career. Tim was also dedicated to volunteering in the community, particularly with refugee settlement, ESL, the Food Bank, and a decades-long commitment to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development, and Peace (CCODP). Tim led a balanced and full life through his family, career, and volunteerism. May his memory be a blessing. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Providence Centre, 3005 119 St. NW, Edmonton, AB, T6J 5R5. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either the CCODP (Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace), 555 Rene-Levesque Blvd. West, 8th floor, Montreal, Quebec, H2Z 1B1, or on their website
