Tom passed away peacefully, at home in Victoria, British Columbia, on October 15, 1999. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, November 17, 1917. Tom is survived by his loving wife Flora and his children and daughters-in-law Tom (Barbara), Jim (Julia), Robert (Margaretha) and Jane, as well as by his grandchildren Michael, Thomas, Helen and Marie. Tom served with distinction during the Second World War, receiving Mentions in Despatches for service in the Italian and North West European campaigns with the Saskatoon Light Infantry and the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. His post war service included command of the 1st Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and senior Canadian Army and NATO staff appointments. During recent years, with other veterans, he shared his wartime experiences with the students of the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College during the Italian battlefield tour series. His zest for life and his sparkle will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate Tom's life will be held in Victoria, B.C. at a later date.
