Ton QUONG Obituary
QUONG, Dr. Ton Lung, M.D., F.R.C.P.S.
Born February 12, 1914, died peacefully in Vancouver, British Columbia on August 4, 1999, surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Quong was predeceased by his beloved Marion (nee Johnston) and their youngest son, Keith. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, her daughter, Virginia, his six children: Herb (Beate), Su (Leon), Helen (Alex), Calvin (Paula), Jenny (Alex), Dennis (Pat), seven grandsons and six granddaughters. Although Dr. Quong did not live to see the Millennium he left his mark on this century in his contribution to his profession, his family, and his community. Born in China, raised from childhood in Minitonas and Swan River, Manitoba, he was the gold medallist graduate in Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 1938. He pursued his profession at the Mayo Clinic, and Winnipeg General and Grace Hospitals. Dr. Quong married the Rev. Marion I.M.J. Quong in 1942 and together, they went to China to pursue their calling in 1947. His role in the establishment of Central Hospital, his long association with the Hong Kong Sanitorium and Haven of Hope TB Sanitorium and others, exemplified his commitment to his profession and service to the community in Hong Kong. Dr. Quong has one surviving brother in Hong Kong, and three half-brothers in Alberta. Dr. Quong's strong mind, guiding principles, and commitment to his ideals and faith will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Quong's family gratefully requests that donations be made, in his memory, to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation-Coronary Care and Intensive Care Units. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 1999, at 10:30 AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Ave., Burnaby, B.C. (604) 299-7720.
