Unah BHATTACHARYA Obituary

UNAH GRIEVE BHATTACHARYA May 13, 1962 - November 13, 2022 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Unah Grieve Bhattacharya. Unah was born in Leicester, England to Biswarup Bhattacharya and Christine Price. Unah is predeceased by her parents, Biswarup and Christine. She leaves behind her sons, Ben (Alana) and Dylan (Brooke); daughter, Jodie; granddaughter, Abigail; sister, Lydia; brothers, Ashok and Janok; and twin brother, Eugene. She is also mourned by a large extended family, as well as her former husband, Andrew. When Unah was six years old, the family moved from England to St. John's, Newfoundland. There she grew up, and developed a love for the place and its people that stayed with her all her life. She loved people. She loved listening to their life stories, giving real and honest advice, and being there for anyone in need. Unah leaves behind a vast network of friends who she often considered family. She was outgoing, with a witty sense of humour and a big heart. First and foremost, in her heart were her own children, and more recently, her beloved granddaughter, but Unah loved all children, and they loved her back. For years she ran a daycare out of her home in North Toronto, and welcomed dozens of neighbourhood children by providing a loving and caring home. Unah was a pillar of the North Toronto community, notably sitting as School Council Chair at Lawrence Park CI for almost a decade and later, her unwavering commitment to many chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous across Toronto. Unah loved books, and read prodigiously and widely. She loved the movies, and spent almost as much time at the Yonge Eglinton SilverCity as she did at home. She was a knitter, to the benefit of almost everyone she knew. She was a wonderful and talented cook, which she shared through her ability to bring people together over a table full of food and laughter. The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles - Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (at Davisville) from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022 with some remarks being shared at 2:00 p.m. The family asks visitors to wear bright colours to celebrate the joy of Unah's life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Unah's memory may be made to College-Montrose Children's Place (www.cmcp.ca/donate). Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
