(June 5, 1931 - March 5, 2026) Velma "Peggy" Joyce Scott passed away peacefully, at her home in Toronto, on March 5, 2026, at the age of 94. Well-loved by everyone who knew her, she will be deeply missed. Born in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, Velma attended Westwood High School in Trelawny and carried with her an adventurous spirit that would shape her remarkable life. In 1965, she immigrated first to New York City before settling in Montreal, where she was part of the close-knit Caribbean community and worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia and the CBC. She moved to Toronto with the CBC in 1966, later transitioning to management at Centenary Hospital until her retirement in 1996. In her retirement years, she enjoyed travelling extensively with friends and family. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Shelly-Ann Scott; her brother, Walter H. Scott (wife, Keisha; children, Astrid, Alex, Liam and Sarah); and many relatives and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, adventure and grace. May she rest in power and in peace. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Highland Funeral Home Scarborough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either North York General Hospital or Sick Kids Hospital. To leave condolences, please visit:
