VERA KURNITZKI-WEST Obituary

Vera left us peacefully, after an unexpected month-long stay at Toronto Western Hospital, at 10:24 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 63, surrounded by her loving family. Her loss will be mourned by her only daughter, Hanna Kurnitzki-West (Adam); her dear sister, Claudia Hammerberg (Ole); two nieces, Heidi (Tony 1) and Kirstin Hammerberg (Tony 2); and her countless friends. She was predeceased by her husband and partner of 35 years, Robert Malcolm West, who died in 2011. In keeping with Vera's wishes, a private family burial has already taken place in Niagara-on-the-Lake, where the West family made a lot of wonderful memories over the years. Those who knew Vera in life were aware that she was stricken with very advanced secondary dystonia over the past nine years following a major brain hemorrhage in 2015, which had negatively impacted her quality of life. I am devastated to learn of Vera's passing.
We had a close relationship still, and enjoyed long telephone conversations, Usually about Hanna! She was the proudest of Mums.

I worked with your Mom many years ago at Tourism Toronto. She was a friend and colleague. I so enjoyed working with Vera as she helped me write so many sport bids. She was so easy to talk to and we had many laughs. She was so proud of you and she was always keeping me up to-date with your travels and your school studies. Keep your memories close. I remember Vera from High School, BHS. I'm so very sorry to hear she suffered so terribly. She has found peace now, I hope she is well in her new "life". Vera was so out going & friendly & had many friends. Rest in Peace Vera. XOA
