VERNA LINNEY Obituary
1934 - 2025 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Verna Linney, formerly known as Mrs. Darcie. Born in Timmins, Ontario, during the Great Depression, she lived her life as a model of tireless, self-sufficient resourcefulness. She spent most of her 30-year teaching career at Georgetown District High School, where she is fondly remembered as Mrs. Darcie, and then later, after marrying fellow teacher, Russell Linney, as Mrs. Linney. After retirement, she went back to university and earned a Ph.D. in Women's Studies from York University, her dissertation focussing on the unrecognized contributions of women in the Arts and Sciences. She went on to become a prolific and highly regarded artist. She and Russ moved to Victoria, BC, in 2002, where she continued with her art and loved walking her dogs. She was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Darcie; and her siblings, Gwen, Pat, and Ken. She leaves behind her husband of over 50 years, Russ Linney; her sons, Gerald (Jerry) and Tom (Ted) Darcie, and their wives, Ann and Janice, respectively; as well as her grandchildren, Todd, Adam, and Corinna Darcie.
