VERNA ISOBEL WISE October 24, 1925 - October 14, 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Isobel Wise (née Mulholland) just shy of her 97th birthday. Verna was born in Toronto where she attended Riverdale High School and met her future husband of sixty years Prof. Sydney Francis Wise, Officer of the Order of Canada (deceased 2007). Verna was a voracious reader, an avid gardener, a weaver, a world traveler, a Stratford Festival Theatre buff, and a collector of early Canadian pressed glass. She was a keenly perceptive and practical person, and observed that in baking, as in cooking and in life in general, there is no such thing as too much butter. She is survived and much loved by her three children John (Anita), Catherine, and Bruce (Janet) and her loving grandchildren Jonathan, Evan and Graham. Verna is also survived by her nieces and nephews, the children of her beloved sister Gloria Louise Brady (deceased 2017), Christopher (Janie), Patricia (Bill), Cameron (Teresa - deceased), Walter (Sanné), Joseph (Viki), and Eleanor. She is also survived by the children of her brother-in-law Frank Wise (deceased), her nephews Michael (Diane), Kevin (Amanda), and niece Nancy Kerr-Taylor (Trevor). We give immeasurable thanks to Virgilia Roque for her extraordinary kindness, attention and care extended to Verna during the last months of her life. Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air; And like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. William Shakespeare We look forward to a gathering of the family at Wiseacres farm to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, Verna would have encouraged the giving to the
Charity of Your Choice in her name.
