Dick died suddenly early Sunday morning, July 30th, 2000, at Princess Margaret Hospital. Beloved husband of Penny and proud and loving father of Sarah, Martha, Matthew and Ned-all of whom will miss his wonderful warmth, wit and compassion. Predeceased by his parents, Elsie and Victor R. Perry. Dear brother of Elizabeth Westbrook, brother-in-law of John Westbrook, Mary and Frank Hawkins, Toronto, and Dack Thomas of London, Ontario. Much loved uncle of Christopher Tulley, wife Joan and daughters Sarah and Laura; Laura Hawkins; Jennifer and Kenneth Thomas, and the late Gregory Thomas. He will be greatly missed by Joseph Callaghan, with whom he shared an avid interest in the Toronto Blue Jays. Dick was a graduate of Trinity College, University of Toronto, and of Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Bar in 1955. From 1969, he travelled extensively in the Orient, and had many friends throughout that continent. He was a founding partner of the firms Macaulay, Perry; Perry, Farley and Onyschuk; and Perry Outerbridge. He truly loved the practice of law; a trusted counsellor and loyal friend. He was a former lecturer in the Bar Admission Course (1959-'66) and former Member of the Central Ontario Review Board, under the Mental Health Act from 1971-'79 and Chairman of that Board from 1979-1986. At the time of his death, Dick was a consulting partner at Blake, Cassels and Graydon, in which capacity he was involved in the establishment of Blake's practice in Beijing, China.. Dick was a long serving Director of Toyota Canada Inc., Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. in Cambridge, and Canadian Autoparts Toyota Inc. in Delta, B.C. He was a retired Director of the Bank of TokyoMitsubishi, with a continuing association; past Canadian President of Janome Sewing Machine Co. (Canada) Ltd. and Member of the Corporation and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Runnymede Chronic Care Hospital. Dick had the honour of representing the Consul General of Japan, in Toronto. Visitation was held at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel at 1403 Bayview Avenue on Wednesday, August 2, 2000. A service of Thanksgiving for his life will be held at Christ Church Deer Park, 1570 Yonge Street, north-west corner of Yonge and Heath Streets on Thursday, August 3, 2000 at 11 a.m. Private interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
