Condolences to his family

Vic and I became friends during high school when he was one on my teachers. He knew that I had failed grade 10 and had a troubled past, yet he chose to meet with me regularly and gently mentor me. He treated me as an equal and would always introduce me to people in his social circle. One day he asked me if I thought he should run for town councilor. I asked him “why are you asking me”? He said “because I value your opinion” . He did run, and the rest is political history.
He made me feel like a somebody! He always encouraged me. He became my “Go to” when I needed help. After leaving Timmins Vic always took the time to meet with me whenever I visited, and even invited me for dinner at his home with his wife Clarice.
Up reflection, Vic was instrumental in me turning my life around. Without his guidance and friendship, I may have lived a more desperate and troubled life. He was a believer in giving people a second chance.
As I moved forward in my life, I would often think, “what would Vic suggest or think” Ultimately, I went from being a Grade 10 failure to having a successful and fulfilling life. Vic was a big part of my success because he believed in me when many others didn’t. When I finished my PhD thesis, I dedicated it to him.
He was a good man!

Mayor Vic Power. It was an honour to know him. Spending time in his company was enlightening and rewarding. He was widely known and respected ----"Mr. Northern Ontario".
Vic left a positive and lasting impression on those who knew him. Remembering his calm, steady, and thoughtful approach to life is a wonderful way to honour his memory. Sincere sympathy to the Family.
