VICTORIA (VICKY) HOUGHTON (née Baechler) After a long and vibrant life, Vicky died at home on March 8, 2022 at the age of 94. The youngest of John and Jane Baechler's ten children, Vicky grew up in Goderich, Ontario, and was known to her siblings and many nieces and nephews as Babe. She attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a degree in Liberal Arts (Latin and Philosophy), and was recognized as St. Michael's College first ever female Athlete of the Year, while playing women's hockey in her figure skates and every other sport she could access. Golf later became her passion, and she continued playing into her early 90's. During her time at St. Mike's, Vicky met Doug Charron, and they married October 6, 1951, bringing Susan (d. 1998), Janie (d. 1956), Mary, Anne, and John into the world. Doug died suddenly as a young man, and Vicky courageously turned her attention to raising her children while beginning a teaching career in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board. Once her children were independent, Vicky met Alfred Houghton. Married in 1984, they were active naturalists and, in their early retirement years, divided their time between Mississauga and Florida. Throughout her life, Vicky remained close with her childhood friends Barb Ralston and Avis Bissett, and was a member of many community groups. She was known to all as a genuine and compassionate friend. Above all, Vicky cherished her grandchildren and her beloved great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Vicky is survived by children Mary, Anne (Emmanuel), John (Pam); grandchildren, Arlen (Steph), Brendan (Liz), Maddie (Dave), Kalin (Katie), Nicholas (Margo), Sebastien (Kamie), Etienne, Mitchell (Alex), Jordan (Laura) and Graham and by her great-grandchildren Tilda, Leni, Cary, Rowan, Violet, Theo, and Charlotte. Vicky's family extends sincere thanks to the residents of the Applewood Landmark, who were so welcoming to her; the Youngs for their continual support; Dr. Jean Barwell of Dixie Road Medical Associates, and the extraordinary Mississauga Home & Community Palliative Care team. Visitation will be held at Turner and Porter Peel Chapel (2180 Hurontario St., N. of QEW) Mississauga, Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Parish (921 Flagship Dr.,) Mississauga. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery. There will be a private family reception following interment. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the
