VIOLET CARTNER Obituary



VIOLET MARGARET CARTNER (WAKEFIELD) Of Oakville, Ontario; passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 7th, 2004 after a ten year illness, at the age of 79. Much loved mother of Jacqueline (Bruce) Barnett, Gillian Gates and Heidi (Paul) Fawcett. Grandmother of Lauren, Colin, Kaelie, Matthew, Hannah and Zoe. She will be missed by several cousins, other relatives and scores of friends all over the world. Violet was born in India February 4th, 1925. Graduated top of her class from Baldwins School in Bangalore, 1947. Married the Love of her life and High School sweetheart, Desmond Cartner on January 5th, 1949 and started her 38 year teaching career in Ootycamund. She traveled extensively throughout India first and then the World. She visited Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Nairobi, Cairo, Beirut, Jerusalem, Rome and the Holy Land. After living in Twickenham, Middlesex UK for 7 years, the family emigrated to Canada. Vi taught for 20 years in Oakville before retiring in 1987. She was a passionate teacher, much loved by her students and their parents, admired by her peers. She travelled from one end of the country she loved so much to the other, also throughout the U.S. and Caribbean. A women of loyalty, who always tried to do her best. Visitation will be held for Vi at the Oakview Funeral Home 56 Lakeshore Rd. W., Oakville, on Sunday October 24, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Jude's Cemetery.
