VITO FORTE Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Vito Forte, who passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at Toronto General Hospital. He is survived by his loving daughter Christina and son Peter; his brothers Ferruccio and Paul; sister Ivana; sisters-in-law Theresa Forte and Hether Deans; and partner Ashley Nagle. Vito was also a proud father-in-law to Parker Gilpin and Victoria Forte, and cherished grandfather to Violet, Maverick, and Adelaide. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife and soulmate, Mary Ann Forte. Vito was a distinguished leader in his field, serving as the CEO, Chairman of the Board and co-inventor of OtoSim. Retiring from clinical practice in 2015, having been the Otolaryngologist-in-Chief and Associate Surgeon-in-Chief at The Hospital for Sick Children, he remained a full Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His acquired skill set, lifelong passion for teaching, engineering and innovation were deployed as a Liaison Officer in the Department of Surgery, fostering connections between clinicians and engineers. Vito's contributions were recognized with several prestigious awards including the 2013 Canadian Association of Medical Educators (CAME), Certificate of Merit Award and the Ernest C. Manning Foundation Innovation Award in 2015, and the Robert Salter Humanitarian Award - but his real impact was felt by the thousands of patients and families he helped over the course of his career. Vito will be remembered for his kind heart, his boisterous laugh, and his love and dedication to helping others. A memorial reception will be held on Sunday, January 26th from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) with remarks at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant House Toronto (covenanthousetoronto.ca). Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

Chrissi, Peter & Family,

We were so saddened to learn of your Father´s passing. Vito was remarkable, a man whose genius not only extended to co-inventing the OtoSim and being a leader in his field but to fixing your neighbor's toilet. We have unforgettable memories of him starting the Conga line at an OLPH fundraiser. It was an honour to know your parents. Vito and Mary Ann were one of a kind, remarkable and humble. Our deepest condolences during this time of unspeakable loss.

Thinking of all of you,
Nora, Glenn, Margot & Sean Davis

We added a photo from our time in Residency. He was always the standard for the rest of us to follow.

Dr.Forte operated on my daughter when she was three. He was the only one we would trust with this complex surgery. He was so comforting and reassuring. I never forgot him almost 30 years later. May this brilliant `gentle teddy bear´ as we thought of him, rest in peace. May his memory be a blessing.

Our sincerest condolences to our childhood friend Christina Forte and her brother. We always thought your dad was so nice (your mum and you both as well). I'm glad my dad and Vito were friends. Vito did a lot of good for people.
