He is also survived by his loving and dedicated wife Mary and their children: Kevin (Lisa), Karen (Gavin), Janet (Andrew), Ardys (David), and Debra (Nicholas) and 10 beloved grandchildren. Wally was educated at Parkdale Collegiate and graduated from the University of Toronto in Medicine in 1957. He continued his training in Toronto and the Mayo Clinic and became an orthopaedic surgeon in 1963. He furthered his education with a McLaughlin traveling fellowship in Scandinavia, USSR and Europe.
Wally practiced at the Hospital for Sick Children until 1986, and was Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery in the 10 years leading up to his departure. In 1987 he moved his surgical practice to Dallas, where he continued to practice at Medical City Dallas until April 2006.

I was 19 years old, when Dr. Walter Bobechko traveled to Quito, Ecuador, and performed surgery on me completely free of charge. He not only gave me a procedure that transformed my health and my life, but he did so with a kindness and generosity I will never forget.

He was a brilliant doctor, but above all, a deeply altruistic human being. His vocation for service transcended borders and left an indelible mark on those of us who had the privilege of being treated by him.

Today, 39 years later, I want to express my deepest gratitude and pay tribute to his memory. Dr. Bobechko was truly a healing instrument in the hands of God.

- With heartfelt thanks from Quito, Ecuador

I hope this finds someone of Dr B´s family. I was his patient from the time I was 8 until I was 15. He was the nicest man and doctor I have had. He saved me from a life of deformity and perhaps death. I was the second patient to have had the two hook procedure done in 1980 at the HSC. If I had known of his passing I would have shared my appreciation and condolences in person. He was a great man and a great doctor I feel blessed to have been cared by him.
