WALTER ALEXANDER CABOTT Walter Alexander born May 9, 1931 passed away quickly and unexpectedly Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Maple Ridge Hospital at the age of 72. Walter was a giant amongst men, not only in stature but also in his generosity. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. He is survived by his wife Mae and their 5 children Scott, Lesley, Laura, Bryce and Kyle and his two grandchildren Jake and Terrie-Lynn, his sisters Ber nice Butkovsky and Diana Cabott (Kelowna), numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends in Canada and abroad. Walter was predeceased by his mother Bernice Haysak, his father Alex Cabott, his stepfather Michael Haysak, his sister Elizabeth, his brother Jack and brother-in-law Russ. He was a successful general contractor, specializing in large institutional buildings throughout British Columbia, Alberta and the Yukon, for over 45 years. Walter was an expert horsemen and extremely well-respected horse breeder in Western Canada. He bred several champion thoroughbreds for both the race track and the show-jumping arena. He was the District Commissioner of the Maple Ridge Pony Club which produced many national and international caliber level riders. All five of his children participated in horse shows for many years. Walter supported and was involved in First Nations communities for over 30 years. He was delighted to accept an honorary adoption from two First Nations in his lifetime: the Kitasoo in 1978, and, most recently, the Haida Nation in 2000. Walter was an avid fisherman and was looking for ward to spending the summer in his beloved Queen Charlottes fishing with family and dearest friends on his new boat. He was an extraordinary man, and his contributions to society were great. He will be deeply missed by all. A Memorial Ser vice will be held Thursday April 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, at the cor ner of Sprice and Schoolhouse, 1504 Sprice Avenue, Coquitlam, B.C. with a reception to follow at 4:00 pm at the Vancouver Golf Club at 771 Austin Avenue.
