WALTER PRIDHAM Obituary

July 27, 1931 – June 30, 2025 Walter Graham Pridham, affectionately known as "Pops," passed on June 30, 2025, one month shy of his 94th birthday. Dad made his final trip to the cottage the day before, where he was able to say goodbye to his entire family. The cottage was a special place for Dad and Mom, a legacy we hope will be carried on for generations to come. Mom (Nancy) predeceased him five years to the day. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and travel. Walt was the father of Gord (Pam), Sue (Brad Abbott), and Tom (Barb). Grandfather to Tyler (Ali), Jamie (Sarah), Blake (fiancée Mallie), Tori and Ben (Abbott), Mackenzie (Lisa), Austin, and Delaney Baie; and great-grandfather to Grayson, Georgia, Amelia, and Hannah. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Smith (Crick Merry). Walter graduated from Victoria College at the University of Toronto ('53), where he earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree. He dedicated his entire professional career to Sears Canada, retiring from the leadership team after 35 years. Walter's leadership extended beyond the corporate world, where he served on the boards of Victoria College, Alpine Ski Club, and Eglinton St. George's United Church (ESG). At ESG, his vision and stewardship were instrumental in the merger that created Eglinton St. George's United Church. An accomplished athlete, Walt especially loved skiing, golf, and tennis. Dad and Mom enjoyed nothing more than encouraging a spirited game between family and friends well into their 80s. Our parents joined the Alpine Ski Club in 1965, fostering a love of the sport for their entire family. A long-time member of Rosedale Golf Club, Dad took great delight in bringing his family together for rounds of golf and special celebrations. A formidable bridge player, he was respected and, at times, feared by his competitors for his sharp mind and strategic play. Walter and Nancy enjoyed lifelong travels with family and close friends throughout Europe, South America, China, and Africa. Many of their trips were inspired by Dad's interest in the various wine regions around the globe. To celebrate their 80th birthdays, Mom and Dad took the entire family to Africa for a safari experience we all feel was the trip of a lifetime. Known to his family as "Project Pete," Pops was happiest in his workshop, crafting beautiful furniture that will be treasured for generations. A strategic thinker and planner, Walter approached both his career and family life with thoughtful consideration and care. He was an exceptional listener, always ready with wise words and gentle guidance. Walter will be remembered as an extraordinary husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, role model, and friend. His legacy of love, wisdom, and integrity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Dad will be dearly missed by his family, fabulous caregivers, Ola and Odie, and the entire staff at Amica Bayview Gardens. Love you forever, Gord, Sue, and Tom. A celebration of Walter's life will be held at Eglinton St. George's United Church (35 Lytton Blvd., Toronto) on July 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at Rosedale Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria College or Eglinton St. George's (ESG) Church. Rest in peace, Pops.

To the Pridham clan. On behalf of Phyllis, Donald (1931-2022) and the whole Purves family we wish to send our sympathy and condolences on the passing of your dear father Walt. All of us have many wonderful memories of time spent with you and your mom and dad, especially at the magical Georgian Bay. Those were the days!
Phyllis has such fond recollections of time spent with the gang at Victoria College when they were young and had their whole long lives ahead of them. Bells, Langfords, Russells, Pridhams and Purves's. Many more friendships along the way. All became steadfast friends for life. Magical.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your Patriarch. He was so proud and so fond of his family! I reported to Walter in his last few years at Sears when he was VP of Corporate Planning. He was supportive and encouraging, and his strong moral fiber ensured that I could trust him -- always. I'm so sorry I missed the celebration of his life -- yesterday, just one day past his birthday, I discovered he had passed. May your many wonderful memories bring you much solace and joy.
