Anne:
I hope this finds its way to you. It was so long ago that I was a faculty member with Murray - I was with the department from 1975-1980. I just came across this notification about his death and am terribly saddened by the news. I admired Murray so much and he was so kind to me when I arrived in Toronto, lost like a southern puppy among such brilliant people. Without Murray's guidance and help, I just couldn't have survived there. But he lifted me up and helped me get on my feet and succeed with research. I have a fond memory of staying at your place for a day or so when I came back for to the University for some event a year or two after leaving. I hope you and Cynthia and Marjorie are doing well. Sincerely....Bruce Moore

Every so often, I find myself searching for updates on my favorite individuals, eager to catch a glimpse of their current endeavors. On occasion, I even contemplate attending their events to relive cherished memories. Professor Wonham was undeniably one of the top names on my list.
Today, I am met with a jolt of disbelief upon learning that Professor Wonham passed away just a few months ago, which comes as a shock given his recent activity. The news has left me utterly devastated. In my despair, a flood of memories from over four decades ago inundates my mind - memories of how he not only nurtured my academic growth but also cultivated in me the ability to think independently. I recall how he offered his assistance when I faced financial struggles during my graduate studies, and how he rescued me, a young and reckless researcher, from the chaos I created at the computer center. I can still vividly remember sharing dinner in his home, alongside his wife and a young Cynthia.
Professor Wonham wasn't solely a teacher or mentor to me; he was a guiding light that consistently illuminated my path. Professor transcended being just a teacher and mentor - he was my guiding light, an ever-present influence. Beyond his genius, he possessed a rare and cherished quality: a compassionate heart. Today, with a heavy heart, I extend my condolences to his family. Though my heart aches, I believe a noble soul like Murray will journey to a better place and that his spirit will forever remain in my heart.

Dear Mrs. Wonham,
I am writing to express my deepest sympathies to you, and your family about the death of your husband, Walter Murray Wonham.
While words do not provide adequate consolation for the loss of a loved one, please know that my colleagues and I at the Faculty are with you in our thoughts.
Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Walter Murray Wonham FRSC was my mentor and well wisher and my PhD thesis examiner. When I met him in 1989 in Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, I saw him as a great soul. He participated in our international conferences organized by me and motivated so many Indian students and faculty members. His absence is very much felt by me, and it is a great loss to Electrical Engineering community. I am so sad. I do not have words to express my agony. I pray to God Almighty to honor him in heaven.

Murray and I were buddies at LCC. Why I am not sure because I was a very bad scholar and he was a genius. However we did play a lot of chess together and I think I amused him. He was blessed with a fine sense of humor and was a lot of fun. He made my experience at LCC very much better. Michael Harrison
