At her home in Goodwood on July 25th, 2002. Waltraut passed away peacefully with her family by her side in her 86th year. She was predeceased by her husband Otto Richter (1991). She is survived by her beloved daughter Christel Caligiuri of Unionville and sons Conrad of Uxbridge, Otto of Whitby, Herbert of Scarborough, and Volkman of Vancouver. She will also be sadly missed by her nine grandchildren Sandra, Max, Eric, Danielle, Alison, Corinne, Emma, Kofi, and Frederick. Waltraut was born in Germany in 1917 and came to Canada in 1953. She co- founded Richters Herbs with her husband Otto in 1967 in Locust Hill, Ontario. The business moved to Goodwood in 1975 where it has flourished into a worldwide mail order herb nursery. Known as the 'Herb Lady', she appeared on numerous radio and television programs, as well as being featured in many newspaper and magazine articles. Waltraut was a great believer in growing organic foods and healthy lifestyles. Waltraut was the president of Richters Herbs since 1991. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29th, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Low & Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Low & Low. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nature Conservancy of Canada (1-877-343-3532).
