Willa DRUMMOND Obituary

WILLA MCQUEEN DRUMMOND March 2, 1967 - August 5, 2023 Willa left us August 5, 2023, in the Eastern Townships. Predeceased by her father, Brian Drummond. She leaves behind her beloved mother, Althea Drummond; her loving siblings, Jeffrey Drummond (Kathryn Lund) and Kim Drummond Dlouhy (Peter Dlouhy); her adored nieces and nephews, Myles Dlouhy (Jacqueline Baudinet), Alexa Dlouhy, Mia Drummond and Liam Drummond; many cousins, the Magical Manitou group, her Pisces Posse, as well as many close friends. Willa grew up in Montreal with splendid weekends and summers at the family retreat in Mount Bruno, filled with sports and laughter, surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles and her indomitable grandmother. A graduate of ECS, Western's Huron College and OCA, where she found her lifelong passion for jewellery design. A talented silversmith, she established her studio on Maud St., where she remained for over 25 years. Friends, family and clients proudly wear their Willa Design pieces. Willa loved travelling and studied art and design in London, Edinburgh and Florence. She relished her experience of teaching jewellery up in Iqaluit in the late '80s and developed an interest in Canada's north. A lover of the outdoors with a strong interest in horseback riding, skiing, volleyball and tennis, she was never happier than when sailing, be it racing on Lake Ontario or sailing in the Caribbean with family and friends. Kind, compassionate, empathetic and wonderful company with all generations, Willa lit up a room with her infectious smile and intelligent mind. She loved to discuss books, travel, art, design and whatever was important to those with whom she was engaging with. Like all Drummonds, Willa adored dogs - Riley, her beloved Westie, won the lottery when the two found each other on her 50th birthday. Willa cherished and nourished her friendships like no other and these strong bonds were evident in the last few years when these friends lifted her up and carried her through some rough waters. It takes a village; there were many key players on 'Team Willa' (you know who you are) and the Drummond family are incredibly appreciative of all that love and support. Special mention to the incredible angels at Princess Margaret, Cedars Cancer Centre, CLSC and the incomparable and compassionate palliative team at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Sherbrooke. Willa continued to live her life with hope and optimism, undefined by her cancer. We will all be better humans if we try and live a little more like Willa; with authenticity, compassion, kindness and hope. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the DOvEEgene project at Cedars ([email protected]). There will be a celebration of Willa's life on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at The Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, at 4:00 p.m. If you have a Willa Design piece, please wear it.

I met you through the Lee family. I am so lucky to know you! Your smile is stamped on my heart forever. You so encouraged and gave me strength with my art! One of my best memories is when we watched MIST together on my broken TV in red it was so surreal.
Your humour and laughter still ring everywhere in my soul. My sincere condolences to all your family and friends! You will be missed ever so much but never forgotten. Your true legacy was your kindness and love for everyone.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Willa. Deepest condolences to her family and friends. Willa was a beautiful person, always with a glowing smile, generous and kind. Everything was always so easy with Willa, we got along so well. We played volleyball, tennis and ultimate together. We shared our love of scootering as well and took our motorcycle course together. I will miss her dearly and the bond that we had.

Our deepest condolences to Thea, Kim and Jeff. I have such fond memories of growing up with the Drummonds on Metcalfe. France and I gave Willa a lift from Toronto to Montreal in `98, and I remember how wonderful it was to reconnect with her vibrant spirit and we laughed most of the trip back « home ».
Love,

To Willa's Family,
I worked alongside Willa as a Proctor for the LSO, NCA and PEBC Exams. She was a happy, welcoming, kind and helpful person whose big, bright smile lit up any room she entered. Hearing the news of Willa's passing in August is such very sad news for me and a great big sad loss for the Proctors who knew and loved her. Please accept my deepest and sincerest condolences for your loss. Willa, that big, bright smile of yours is missed by all who knew you. R.I.P. my friend.

Sincere Condolences to the entire Drummond Family.
I had the pleasure of working alongside Willa as a Exam Proctor on many occasions during her time in Toronto. Willa was a compassionate, loving soul, with a great smile and joy to be around. I was very blessed to know this great gal who had a zest for life. A bright angel (Willa) is now in heaven, yet will be very much missed by all.

I am so sorry for your family's loss.

I have waited for the words to come to me, but none suffice to better capture the spirit of Willa than the beautiful and genuine reflection depicted in this obituary.

Willa leaves a big gap in my life, her friendship meaning so much in so many ways. We all mourn the loss of Willa, but no more than her immediate and extended family who were there to support her in every possible way from the moment of her diagnosis until her death. I have so much admiration for very one of you.

I have gone through several photos, including those from birthday parties, snowshoeing in the Eastern Townships, hanging out with dogs, etc. but our International Women's Day celebrations together particularly stand out as Willa cancelled at the last minute before the dinner in 2020; only later that evening did I learn that she has just received her cancer diagnosis the previous day. Below are two photos from March 2018 and 2019, as well as one of Willa in August 2018.

Please know that Althea, Kim, Jeff and all of your family are in my thoughts, as well as Willa's many friends, and of course, Willa herself.

Willa certainly was a beautiful person. I only met Willa a handful of times, but knew of her adventures through my Mom. Willa converted my wedding ring (Helen Buzzell's ring) to a necklace because it was breaking. She did an expert job and I cherish the piece. Condolences to all. Melanie Byford-Young

Here is beautiful, smiling Willa in March 2019...where she often was... at a Gordon family gathering. My 3 children love her as much as I do, they saw her so often. Always happy. This is just the first of many Gordon family memories to be shared about our dear friend Willa, but this photo is one I look at every day. Good memories. Thankyou Willa, love Katharine G.
